The South Texas Comprehensive Cancer Centers will break ground at its Northwest Cancer Center location in Calallen for the expansion of a new vault which will house the world’s most Advanced Radiation Therapy system July 15, 2010.
The TomoTherapy® Hi·Art® treatment system is a first-of-its-kind radiation therapy solution, integrating advanced CTrue™ imaging and 360° delivery features for greater accuracy and precision, based on patient anatomy for t hat day, rather than for last week or last month. The Hi·Art system targets radiation treatment to the patient’s tumor, while helping limit damage to surrounding tissues.
Corpus Christi, TX– On July 15th, 2010 South Texas Comprehensive Cancer Centers will break ground for the expansion and integration of the world’s most advanced cancer treatment system at its Northwest Cancer Center location in Calallen.
The TomoTherapy unit will be ready to treat its first patient in October of 2010. This will be the fourth in the state of Texas allowing the patients living in the Coastal Bend area to receive the newest state of the art cancer treatment. Patients will be able to receive the same high level of care and better technology without having to make a five or six hour round trip drive to Houston or San Antonio.
Unlike traditional radiation therapy equipment, the Hi·Art system’s treatment delivery unit doubles as a CT scanner. This allows true CT images of a patient’s anatomy to be created with the same physical equipment next used to treat that patient, thereby bringing clinicians unprecedented confidence that patients will receive extremely accurate treatments from one day to the next.
